Services
Whether you represent the plaintiff or the defendant in a medical liability
case, one of the most difficult tasks is interpreting the medical documents.
You need to know exactly what the chart says, what the abbreviations
and medical terms mean, if the care given was appropriate, timely and
consistent with the standard of care, and if your case is viable.
As experienced healthcare professionals with extensive clinical knowledge,
we stand ready to:
- Review and interpret the medical documents
- Obtain the appropriate medical research needed
- Translate medical terms into understandable language
- Assist in determining objectively how to proceed
- Provide dynamic illustrations explaining certain illnesses or
traumatic injuries
- Locate the appropriate expert medical witness
We are capable of:
- Performing an initial screening of the medical records for merit
- Organizing, reviewing and summarizing the medical records in a
concise, understandable manner
- Preparing timelines, reports, chronologies and overviews to help
identify crucial issues
- Providing expert testimony
- Providing the standards of care that relate to the case and obtaining
additional medical experts you may need
- Assisting with the preparation of appropriate questions for interrogatories,
depositions and trials
- Researching the medical literature and providing demonstrative
evidence and/or exhibits
Fees
We perform an excellent job at a fair market price.
If you are interested, we will send you specific information about
our fees by fax, email attachment or mail.
Our services are based on an hourly rate. Current national estimates
are 2.5 to 3.5 hours per inch of records.
After receiving the required retainer, your assignment will receive
our utmost attention. Any unused fees will be refunded. Additional
fees are due and payable within 30 days of receiving an invoice. Unpaid
balances will be subject to a 1.5% interest charge per month.
Services are contracted with you individually and are not based on
any contingency arrangement for payment. This not only includes the
outcome of subsequent litigation but also regardless of any agreement
between you, your client or another attorney/colleague.
Physician review fees are higher than that of legal nurse consultant
fees due to the differences in education and expertise. Rates also
increase if expert witness services are needed for depositions and
trials.
Expert location is performed on an hourly basis, with a minimum of
one hour at the legal nurse consultant's rate and a maximum of four.
If additional time is needed for locating an appropriate expert, you
will be advised accordingly. There are several search engines available
to law firms such as Lexis/Nexis, allowing access to the legal background
information of any candidate. Our company does not have access to
these extensive background checks and suggest this be completed before
hiring an expert.
We treat our clients with the same consideration and respect we wish
to be treated. This means we perform the requested task even though
we are capable of many and do not run up unnecessary billable hours.
A percentage of all money received by Medical Review & Research
Associates is dispersed to our local church and various charities.
